the hen will spend mos of her time warming her eggs but you dont have to worry she will eventually get up for a while to eat something just make sure that the food is around her so that way she doesnt leave her eggs unprotected for too long especially if you have other hens or roosters

Yes, hens do eat, but you may not notice them eating. Each hen has her own time for getting off the nest, moving around, eating and drinking. She may be off the nest for 5 minutes or as long a an hour while other hens are laying eggs in her box. Many of my broody hens only get up once during the day, but I have one that will get up every 3 hours for a walkabout.

How can you tell they have eaten? I check under my hens, daily, in case another hen snuck an additional egg in. When I lift the broody hen, I check her crop for food. Most of the time I can feel a crop full.
