Horseshoe crabs are NOT poisonous at all and are harmless. During mating season, the eggs are extremely poisonous and should not be touched or eaten, you will be poisoned and you may die if not treated.
The poisonous part of the crab is what is commonly called the 'devil'. The devil of the crab are the crabs gills or lungs.

The "horseshoe crabs" get their nickname because their arc shaped exoskeleton. The nickname is not a proper name and therefore does not require capitalization.
