Regular clothes... Just not anything extremely indecent. Though some very conservative Adventists do choose to wear some very tacky looking clothes. In general, we just dress in plain clothes like everyone else.

While some Seventh-Day Adventist wear wedding rings, most do not. There are no formal church doctrines against the wearing of wedding rings; however, it is strongly discouraged based on the history of the tradition and the lack of Scriptural evidence to support the practice.

Since there is no doctrine against the wearing of wedding rings, a better question might be, "Should Seventh-day Adventists wear wedding rings, or any Christians, for that matter?"

History of the Tradition

The earliest Christians to land on the shores of the United States (the Pilgrims) and the early Puritan Protestants during the Middle Ages did not wear wedding rings as it was believed the tradition was steeped in paganism (worship of false gods) and was not a means to include the creator God (the author of marriage) into the union of man and woman.

These Christians understood that the roots of the practice came from the Egyptians and was a symbol founded in the Egyptian belief of a Sun and Moon god represented by a never ending circle of eternity. in fact the hole in the center of the ring was symbol of a gateway between the known and unknown. They also understood that the wedding ring was not worn by God's people (the children of Israel). In fact, God brought them out of Egypt and into the wilderness to rid them of all of the traditions of men in worship to the many false gods in Egypt.

Later the Greeks would pick up the practice from the Egyptians and spread it throughout Europe. The Romans took the practice to a new level by forming the ring of metal rather than hemp, and the practice entered the church through the religious authorities of Rome under the emperor Constantine, who married many pagan rituals to Christianity (Look up the history of Christmas and Easter for other examples).

The use of the wedding ring therefore marries the true union created by the creator God in Eden with the blessing of false gods.

Scripture

Exodus 20

1And God spake all these words, saying,

2I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Colossians 2:8 (New International Version)8See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ

Matthew 6:24 (King James Version)

24No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Generally the church frowns on the use of jewelry, based on the idea that we are currently living in the anti-typical Day of Atonement (what the Israelite Day of Atonement represented and when they were called to get rid of their jewelry), as well as texts such as 1 Peter 3:3-5a:

3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves.

According to the Seventh-day Adventist Church General Conference, to which this question has been put before, the use of jewelry has no official beliefs.

Most Adventists do not wear jewelry, but it is left up to each person to decide for themselves. Use of jewelry is becoming more common among Adventists, especially in the United States. Wedding rings are also considered something of a special case, since they have greater meaning than other jewelry and in some cases not having a wedding ring could send the wrong message. We are taught in The Bible that when Moses led the people out of Egypt, God got angry with them for worshiping other idols as well as their precious metals like gold and pearls. God told the people to take off all their jewelry but He never did tell them to put it back on, so Adventists take that as a sign as not to wear it because it distracts us from the things that are really important. The Bible also tells us that we should not draw attention to ourselves through our "fashion," hair, makeup, clothes, jewelry, etc.
