Jews have a historical connection to Israel, but the claim on the land is established quite differently: Jews have been buying land in Palestine since the end of the Crusades, a bit here, a bit there. In the late 19th century, with the rise of Zionism, Jews around the world began to collect money in large quantities to buy more land. What is now the Jewish National Fund was established, and and by the end of the British Mandate, Jews owned large areas of what is now Israel, as well as significant parts of traditional centers of Jewish life in what is now the West Bank, particularly in long established communities such as Hebron and Jerusalem. During the 1948 war that followed the UN partition, there was considerable what we now call 'ethnic cleansing' with all of the Jews driven out of Palestinian land and perhaps half of the Arabs driven out of Jewish land. Sadly, hard feelings persist.

Is palestine the historical homeland of European Jews?

Answer 1Only in the same way that Germany is the historical homeland of Australians.Answer 2The Land of Israel is the historical home of all Jewish people. There are a number of individuals who wish to impugn the Jews of Europe as being somehow less Jewish and less Middle Eastern than their counterparts who lived in the Arab countries. However, DNA tests and other evidence show that the Jews of Europe have all of the same markers as Jews from Arab countries. Additionally, the Jews of Europe have no lesser of a cultural attachment to the Land of Israel by dint of their minor physical differences. As a result, they have just as much right to the Land of Israel as do any other Jews.Answer 3The Israelites, who were the ancestors of modern Jewry, lived in what is now called Israel for many hundreds of years. And European Jews have been returning to Israel for the last seven centuries.
