Not to my knowledge. Amazon has their own proprietary format for the books, which is a DRM-restricted format called AZW. So, you would need a program specifically designed to read this format. As far as I know, none exists.

Yes, Kindle works in Romania. The latest generation Kindle (3rd) is international. The downside is that Whispernet transfers cost more and that's reflected in the price of the books on Amazon. Other than that, it works great.
I don't think so. I have a regular Kindle and a Kindle Fire and the USB cable on the regular Kindle does not work with the Kindle Fire. But I think a USB cable shared between two regular Kindles might work.
