How common is it for someone to get a college degree while in the Marines?
Most active duty Marines do not have time to attend college so it's not very common but it is possible. Online courses and limiting yourself to one of two classes a semester can help a Marine to get a college degree while on active duty.
Is travel in the marines free?
My husband & I have been active duty Marines for 5 years now.... some airlines give discounts (not much) but no nothing is free. The only time you dont have to pay for travel is when you get deployed or you get orders. If you get orders to move... the govt gives you per diem for traveling. But if your traveling for vacation or leasure... you dont get jack sh*t for discounts.
What is minimum contract time for marines?
Altogether, 8 years. Personally, I only know the specifics for active duty, which are: you can serve 4 years active, 4 years reserve OR 6 years active, 2 years reserve OR 8 years active.
The difference between US National Guard and US marine corps?
Marines are an active duty component while the Guard is part time. Also the uniforms are different.

Does the National Guard make your house paynents if call to active duty?
Not likely. You would still be responsible for house payments. However, you would be paid some amount by the National Guard, probably more for active duty. No. While on active duty you receive regular duty pay and benefits, not from the National Guard (or Reserves), but from the Federal Government (Army, Navy, Air Force) (Marines & Coast Guard fall under Navy). Also time served on active duty counts toward retirement.
Does basic training count toward active duty time?
Yes (and no). For the purpose of "Active Duty" it absolutely does. For the purpose of benefits, it usually does not. Benefits use "Active Service" which 99% of the time stipulates "other than active duty for training". So it depends on what you are specifically asking for.

Can you go from army active duty to army reserve?
Probably not. It's extremely hard just switching from a reservist to active duty, I've heard guys that we're waiting more than 14 months to make the switch to active and are still on hold. Its all about the needs or the Marines reserves and the the needs of the active duty command. It probably won't even be possible to switch, unless you haven't left for boot yet.
