yes, muscles do start to break down when the body needs energy if you are starved. protein (which is used to make up your muscles) can be broken down for energy because they supplement the same amunt of eneryg as carobhydrates do by gram. it won't ALWAYS get affected, depending on the person, how long the person has been starved, and how much fat/sugars they have stored up. but eventually, the muscles will be broken down in time.
