My father is paying $185 per day to live in a nursing home. I spoke with the director of dietary services and he said the amount budgeted per resident for food per day (3 meals and a snack) is $5.20! I checked it out and this is the same as the weekly food stamp allowance for a male over 71 years old. You could try asking the director of dietary services what their budget is. I suspect most nursing homes' food budgets are equally as grim.
You can always ask to speak to the director of food services.
Generally the residents food, nursing care, and around the clock monitoring is included in the cost of nursing homes. Help with personal care, walking and feeding if assistance is needed is all included. Some nursing homes will cover personal needs products such as soap or depends and toothpaste but that varies from facility to facility.

Institutional food usually refers to food cooked for a large group of people who either work, live, or study at that place, and who are generally not able (or not permitted) to get their meals elsewhere. Examples of where you might find institutional food are public schools, military bases, nursing homes, and prisons.
I have volunteered at local animal shelters, community food banks, and environmental clean-up events. I have also volunteered at nursing homes to spend time with elderly residents.
