No, Penguins don't need to eat during the migration. whilst the males are looking after the eggs the females go fishing for food for their newborn chicks and the males had gone fishing before the migration so they have stocked up on fat most survive and some do not. when the males have reached their destination also called the 'hatching grounds' the chicks will hatch and the females will return with the food and the chick is the one to get fed first. Although some females do not return because of the many predators in the oceans. So the males are forced to go out fishing on their own and leave their chick in the safest place they can (which they're aren't many) and when they return there is a slim chance that the chick would be alive because of the land predators or flying predators or the cold or they may have even starve to death.
