Most people currently have television that do not have antennas because it was required the you get a booster box to pick up certain channels. Howevere, they're are still people that do use antennas.
The digital TV antennas were made when the analog satellites for TVs went to a Digital satellite. With a converter box and the digital antennas it still makes it possible to use TV that still use the old rabbit ears.
They are in use all over the world but they are used less for TV in areas wired for cable TV.
You do not need to use a newer flat screen television to use a digital television antenna. They should work with older tv sets if you have a converter box.
Yes, people still use wooden television stands although since televisions can now be hung on a wall, there might not be as many people using them as once before.
You can if the local TV stations are not to far away, select a VHF/UHF antenna. If the stations are far away, mount the antenna as high as possible. Check with your neighbors that have antennas.
There are a few small, portable televisions that have inbuilt aerials. They have been around in the analog days and new versions have digital receivers. The thing that they all have in common is that they don't work well. The built in aerial needs a very strong signal to be effective. Some people are lucky enough to use them in good signal areas, most others have to put up with intermittent pictures or very limited channels. If you can, try before you buy and in the areas that you will be using it if you buy it.
You can still receive TV signals by antenna, but the signals can only be read by high definition receivers. "New" TVs, VCRs, Satellite boxes and Cable boxes will be labeled as HD ready, so they can translate high definition transmissions, but older, analog based TVs and VCRs will require an adaptor to translate the HD signal. From what I understand, adaptors will soon be available for about $70 to $80 each and there are supposed to be coupons or vouchers available that will offer a $40 discount (one coupon per family) to the general public.
Not sure, but I do and I imagine that the number is increasing everyday; as more and more people realize how much money they waist on cable or satellite.
An over the air television through an antenna is what people used to use back in the golden age of television, before there was anything like a coaxial cable, and when there were three or four channels at the most. OTA channels still very much exist and with the OTA update that was made when it became clear that HD was here to stay, you can now get HDTV antennas and watch those major channels with a crystal clear picture, without befooing tied down to a cable provider.

Many inventions are still used today. A lot of them have been updated from their original version, but rest very similar all the same. For example: Television sets, computers, chairs, vehicles, microscopes...
