The pitbull was bred to be a fighting dog, but that does not men that all pitbulls will bite people.
It's not just pitbulls that bite. Any breed of dog will bite when provoked. The way they are trained makes a big difference; abusive treatment can cause any breed to be mean. That or their just being very territorial or want you to leave them alone.
