Ozone is toxic to plants, and plants exposed to ozone have stunted growth. Ozone directly affects the breathing structures in plants, much as it does for lung tissue. If they cannot respire correctly / easily, they die. Ozone is mixed with irrigation water, and sprinkled directly on the roots of things like cucumbers for control of nematodes (not done continuously... just once-a-week or so). Marigolds will produce ozone when predators attack its roots.
