∙ 10y agoNo. Possums are unable to live in the dry, sandy desert, where there is insufficient food or shelter for them. Most possums live in trees, and there are very few trees in the desert. However, the Western Pygmy possum, a species native to Australia, is found in scrubby, dry woodland areas of Australia where vegetation is sparser, living lower-growing trees such as grevillea, melaleuca, banksia and callistemon. This is the closest any possum comes to living in the desert.
