Yes, they like them too. They eat them by their front teeth biting off chunks...they can't get their mouth open wide enough around the apples to chew them whole. Sometimes when the apple is "stuck", it reminds one of a dog and peanut butter, but that's another story. Sheep will "ram" apples out of your hand, but their eyes are terrible, so you can't really play fetch with them. But they do love their apples!

Yes. Chickens will consume small pebbles and sand which is stored in the gizzard to help digestion. As the muscles of the gizzard move the food around the small hard stones help grind the food up. These "rocks" eventually get moved out of the gizzard and pass through the digestive system and need to be replaced.
