generally speaking, no. but copper nails will kill trees. anything you drive into the center of a tree - disrupting its internal sap flow might kill it. so if they are small SS nails in relation to the girth of the trunk/branch it should be fine.

Stainless steel is not easy to clean like some modern materials. However it has the advantage that you can use scouring pads and steel wool scrubbers without any fear of harm. Stainless is pretty much the most durable material you can buy for any kitchen utensil as well, so it would probably last much longer.
