Size isn't a factor, but tampons may increase bleeding.

Many women notice when switching from tampons to options such as menstrual cups or pads that their flow reduces, thus there is an assumption that tampons increase flow - one reason put forward for this is the chemicals within many brands of tampons, however absorbency may also be a major factor.

Tampons don't just absorb blood they also absorb vaginal moisture, this causes ulceration in vaginal tissues which could bleed and thus adding to flow - in the 1970's when super-absorbent materials were being used in tampons many women were admitted to hosppital with vaginal hemoraging, thus this theory isn't too far-fetched.

No, wearing tampons does not lighten your period flow.

If anything it's believed that tampons may increase menstrual flow, one theory for this is because tampons dry-out vaginal tissues causing splitting in the vaginal walls which may cause bleeding which adds to menstrual flow. In the 1970's-1980's during the Toxic shock syndrome outbreak the tampons responsible were also putting women in hospital with massive vaginal hemorrhaging, so it is not unreasonable to think tampons (especially rayon tampons which are rougher and more aggressively absorbent than cotton tampons) could cause tearing and increased bleeding.

Many women who switch from tampons to safer options like menstrual cups or softcups report that their flow is significantly reduced - this is anecdotal, as most research on tampons is carried out by tampon manufacturers themselves it's unlikely they'd look into whether tampons increase flow.

No, menstruation is determined by your menstrual cycle - inserting something into you vagina cannot effect your menstrual cycle, and thus cannot cause misses periods.

Do not use tampons when not menstruating. As well as putting yourself at unnecessary risk without menstrual flow tampons will dry-out the vaginal tissues more than normal, causing increased vaginal tissue damage which can be uncomfortable and gives TSST-1 toxins a more direct route into your body, thus higher risk of toxic shock syndrome.

No, a tampon cannot delay menstruation as menstruation is determined by your menstrual cycle. However you should absolutely not use tampons if not menstruating, this significantly increases your risk of TSS.

There is nothing that can slow it down but there is medicine that can make you bleed less so ask your doctor. Birth Control pills also makes it better.
