temperatures get warmer as you get near the equator due to the closer the equator is to the sun than the poles. Usually as you get to the equator the weather becomes more tropical and humid but it is still warm.

When you get closer to the equator does it get colder or hotter?

Because the Equator is like the line of where the sun goes round. Therefore it would be warmer there. So if your not near the Equator it's most likely to be colder, cause your not in the direct line of sun. Although, Australia is really hot and they aren't in the Equator area, so...Maybe they're just lucky :P - Hope it helped. Mariah. Because the Equator is like the line of where the sun goes round.
