The extremists want blood. There is no way to negotiate or buy your way out of it. Denial and political correctness are their tools.

It would be difficult to characterize it as a "civil war", since most of the combatants are from out of the country. It's a unique war; the Islamic radicals want to take over Iraq in an attempt to build support for their efforts to take over the rest of the middle east. This is a continuation of the war that radical Islam has been fighting for a long time. They just figure that the region is unstable now and want to force their evil brand of their religion down the throats of the otherwise peaceful adherents to Islam. Just so you understand... once they take over the middle east they intend to expand. They have openly declared that everyone will convert to Islam; or they will die. It is impossible to negotiate with people like that.
He wanted to take it over himself, he didn't want Tak to do his job.

It wasn't a country so much as a city; the Crusaders wanted to take over Palestine (Jerusalem) which was- and still remains- one of the largest holy centers in the world. At the time of the first Crusade, Palestine was in Muslim control, and, actually, the main reason for the Crusades was to recapture the holy land from the Islam religion.
Joshua was willing to obey God, and thus was willing to take over from Moses.
