No I have two female gerbils (Minnie and KE$HA) and KE$HA is clearly older and they get along fine.
It doesn't really matter. Research has shown that males are more relaxed together and that females tend to fight occasionally, but that is not a problem for me. I have thee female gerbils and they're perfectly fine about each other. So it doesn't really matter what gender you choose...
gerbils just get into little fights like that, a good way to stop it is to add on to your gerbils' cage to give them more space to get away from each other when ever they want :) As long as its not 2 boys together!!!
PMT....everytime
Yes they will. Hamsters and gerbils are solitary creatures and they wil fight if they feel that someone else is in their territory.
if they are not related then yes but if they are then no
yes. so they dont fight, you need to put a divider in the middle of the cage.
two boy gerbils should not fight, aslong as they knew each other form since they were pups. if not, use the split cage method and you should be fine. if you leave some old bedding in the cage when you clean it out gerbils are less likely to fight. girl gerbils are more dominent so boys are less likely to fight then girls. always keep a pair of gerbils, or they will get depressed. some gerbils do like to live alone, but this is uncommon.
Yes they get along, but should you put them together? NO, gerbils do well in groups, 3-4 for males and pairs for females. Females are the top in wild gerbil clans, and the head female will fight with other females to keep her place (so if daughter wants to see her boyfriend she got to leave), and males will fight to be the top male to get breeding rights with the female. Don't mix boys and girls together you will have a ton of babies that you can't find homes for, and possibly lead to inbreeding, and them winding up as snake food
Yes! If they continue to fight put them in a diffrent cage for a few hours, 5 or 6, then put them together again. They will make up because they were lonely. I have 9 gerbils it works. :)
no. when the pups are born the non pregnant gerbil will kill the pups and most likely attemp or actually kill the mother too. but if the mother dies in birth the other gerbil may adopt the pups. take it from someone who knows. I disagree, if two females are raised together for a long period of time, they can be kept together if one has pups. I have raised gerbils a long time and usually the 2 females will raise the pups together.
no but they will have babies and when they do the father will try to eat them so if you do have babies take the father away when they are being born. male gerbils fight with each other.
