Before reservations, and the trail of tears, the Apache were in clans. Not tribes. They were spread out from Colorado south into Mexico, and West Texas. My clan was and still is called Lipan Apache. the Mescalero Apache were also from the same area as my tribe. Nomad as with the seasons, but for the biggest part most called the Rio Grande River area and mountain areas home. Back in the 1400 we came south from Colorado, and North of there. It was so many years ago that we only know what our elders have told in story's of the clan's, or band's. Geronimo was of the Chiricahua Apache Band. He was born 1797 and died in 1862. He surrendered in 1886. Sent to a camp in Florida. Stayed as a prisoner of war for 27 years. Cochise died in 1874, surrendered in 1871. His relatives are with the Mescalero Band Reservation in Ok. He was a great Leader. I know he hid, and fought for around 10 years in the Dragoon Mountains around Arizona. It is said that he never lost a battle! It is also said that his grave is secretly hid in these mountains.
