No turtles do not eat their own eggs that would totally destroy the point of going through that trouble to lay them in the first place.
Alot of websites say they dont but my turtles did. So i guess they arent supposed to.
Well my turtle laid her egg this morning then ate it like 45 mins. later and I dont understand or know why !
Yes, turtles will happily eat their own babies or some other turtle's babies if they come across them. Turtles are know to cannibalize other turtles and I have experienced this first hand. Even baby turtles that see new born hatchling swimming in the same tank are quite prone to chase, bite, and eat the littler guys, luckily that's not what happened to me. I actually found a 6 inch long Eastern Painted Turtle whose face had been completely ripped away by, most likely, a larger slider turtle. He had no eyes and only the last half of his jaw. The top half of his plastron had almost been completely bitten off, it was barely connected, and the top half of his shell had a bite mark in the same place as the plastron. It was easy to see where the huge jaws of the other turtle had been. It could have easily been a snapping turtle, a female he was trying to court, of an angry slider turtle. Amazingly the turtle, who I named Gus, was still alive and lived for about a month more in my care. He couldn't grab on to food so I trained him to put his mouth around anything that touched his face. Eventually I could slide long skinny fish into his mouth and push them part or the way down so he could swallow. Gus lived in paradise for about a month later before he passed away, it was very hard to see him go. Gus's story is a horrible reminder of what turtles can do to each other so always be careful and watchful in there is a new turtle joining your tank.
Yes Box turtles eat their babies . I have not figured out why. they do not eat there young.
some times an adult turtle will eat a small bay bird that fell out of its nest
yes they do. the mothers have about 100 eggs and then they bury them like no one was there.
No. They lay eggs, then they're done. They don't watch the eggs either.
no turtles dont raise their the lay there eggs and go away
Turtles lay eggs, if they are fertile and kept in the right conditions the eggs will hatch into baby turtles.
Our turtle just did. I noticed an egg and then she ate it. She is RES. She laid 8 eggs several months ago, then another time she laid 6 eggs, the a couple of weeks ago she laid one and now this one. She didn't eat any of the first 2 batches but has eaten the last 2 eggs. Maybe because she has no nest to dig, lay and cover them up in. She has not mate, so they would never be fertile or hatch.
they do not take care of them. they lay their eggs and then return to the ocean
the male painted turtle wiggles it's nails in front of the female turtles
not usually bacause unless you raise them from babies they are really aggressive
Why do snapipng turtles have babies? well, they have babies to multiply so they're not extinct.
They don't, leatherback sea turtles lay eggs, bury them, then leave for the ocean. When the eggs hatch, the mother is not around.
They do raise their own babies as we raise ours.
That travel through the ocean and turtles have babies
No Mother turtles have nothing to do with their baby's.
