a conservationist is someone who looks after animals on the land/ice. to be better than the answer above an animal conservationist is someone who helps certain breeds of animals population go up. for instance they could help save the pandas by breeding them in captivity and then reabilitating them into the wild. I would like to be one of them.

I work legally with wildlife in Texas and raccoons are not allowed as pets unless the person has a special (and hard to get) permit. - Zoological Permit, Game farm permit, etc. Even wildlife rehabilitators can only hold the animals until they are old enough to be released. Unless they can get the animal classified as an educational animal, they may not hold it as a pet.
