I both agree and disagree, about different achievements.
People of the Renaissance looked at the achievements of the Greeks and Romans as inspiration for their work.
Ancient Romans were the first people to built the actual road system.
Art and architecture.
The Romans benefited from the cultures of other countries by adapting and absorbing aspects of the foreign cultures. The most obvious example is the Greek form of government. The Romans, after ousting their king sent a delegation to Greece to study the government. The Romans took the principles of the Greek governing system and adapted them to their own culture, such as the voting systems.
The early Greeks and Romans are known for their culture which is the root of our western culture. Almost all aspects of our society -- legal, moral, logic -- can be traced back to the Greco/Roman societies.
Some would say the Romans were civilised but others would disagree.
Romans had many achievements in many different aspects. Their most important ones were probably their political powers in the ancient times. For a good amount of time they controlled all the land around the Mediterranean sea under the rule of military leaders that took office and pretty much became dictators. (Julius Caesar, Augustus). At the time these achievements were the most important especially to the Roman citizens themselves. Today, some historians argue that their technological advances were the Romans most significant achievements. Some of these include, but are not limited to, aqueducts, baths, arches, stadiums and other architecture, and their road systems.
the achievements of Rome are very interesting. Their achievements would be doing their job how ever its suppose to be done. And one is how Julius Caesar conquered many lands in his time.

Commodus did not accomplish much. He was vain, fancied himself as a gladiator, and was cruel. He was the worst emperor the Romans had.
Minerva is the Roman goddess of widsom, crafts, poetry, and weaving. The Romans did not take any of her warlike aspects from the Greeks, since they worshiped Mars for those aspects.
Paul explains this in Romans 7:14-25.
Our government has certain aspects of the government that the Romans used, such as checks and balances and a senate.
