Certainly not.

2nd answer: If metal-to-metal grinding has been heard prior to the brake shoe change, slap your calipers on those rotors before deciding to have them turned.

Is it necessary to cut brake rotors when changing pads. The rotors are cross-drilled and slotted?

If rotors are smooth and shiny, they are good. If still not certain, ask at brake shop.

What causes Saturn Vue brake noises?

The brake pads are probably worn. If not repaired, then the metal backer of the brake pads can cut into and damage the brake rotors. Noise is a sign to check the brakes as soon as possible.

What causes brake rotors to get groves?

In general, normal wear can cause the rotors to become groved. The pads wear "into" the rotor during regular use. At some point, the rotors may need to be turned or replaced, and the pads may need to be replaced. Both the turning/replacing of the rotors and the replacment of the brake pads is done at the same time. Few if any professionals will attempt to "short cut" a brake job by just doing one thing.

Do you cut rotors after brake job?

It's a good idea. Typically, when you have brakes done at a garage, turning the rotors are part of the deal. If you don't turn the rotors, imperfection in the rotor surface can create grooves and uneven wear in your new pads.

Why would the brake pedal shake?

Sounds like brake pulsation. Probably from the front brake rotors. Don't cut them, chuck them and get new ones, replace the beat up pads at the same time and adjust the rears-if drum brakes in back. Brake pads/rotors are usually to blame for vibration during heavey or normal braking I agree, new pads, rotors, all the way around will help. But if they are bad, you might want to have the rubber lines checked for cracks to ensure future safety. A pulsating brake pedal which is known in the automotive world as spongy brakes is caused by worn or warped rotors/drums and/or shoes/pads. To correct this problem visually inspect the parts. If the rotors are not perfectly smooth then replace them.

Do I need to turn rear rotors on 2004 Mazda 3 before replacing brake pads?

I only get them cut when the brakers are pulsating. they do need to be replaced after 40k miles

I have a 2007 Impala LT. Seems the break rotors are warped. There are 19K miles on the car. Pulsing when the brakes are hot on long down hill sections of twisting roads. Any advise?

get the rotors cut and replace the brake pads

What happens if i don't change my brake pads?

Once the pads are worn off you will have the metal backing of the brake pad making contact with the rotor. It will, in just a few stops ruin the rotors meaning you will have to replace the rotors. If you continue to drive it this way it will eventually cut completely through the rotor and it will break causing the brakes to lock up on that wheel and you can have a serious accident.

Do new brake drums need to be cut?

Brake drums can not be cut. The shoes inside can be replaced.Only disc brakes(rotors) can cut.

When do you change brake pads and rotors?

If they are warped, they need to be turned, if they are groved, they need to be turned. If they are glazed, they need to be turned. In general, if you are working on the brakes, they need to be turned. If they are too thin (not wide enough across) to be turned, they need to be replaced. Many newer rotors are not thick enough to be turned, so you just replace them every time you replace the brakes. Most auto parts retailers will measure the thickness of the rotors for you and tell you if they can be turned.

Specs after turning the rotors on 2001 maxima?

Brake rotor specs are specified by the manufacturer. It is measured with a micrometer and if too thin via specs, will overheat causing a serious brake fade and loss of braking ability. Other problems could be that the rotor overheats and either warps or breaks~neither good. Turning the rotors is a process of rough cut and smooth cut that is supposed to take minimal amounts of metal off to make it an even surface for your brake pads to brake against. Most manufacturers today produce rotors that are not really able to be turned. So new rotors made be the only answer if yours are bad.
