The first female country music singer to perform on the Grand Ole Opry was the Queen of Country Music, Kitty Wells. Comedian, Minnie Pearl was the first female member of the Grand Ole Opry (joining in 1940).

I dont know what it was for,but it was at the grand ol' opry !
Yes, Dolly did sing at Porter's funeral at the Grand Ole Opry. She sang I Saw The Light with the cast of the Opry at the end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnOU89u58L8
Roy Acuff was given the honor. He sang his hit, "The Wabash Cannonball."
Easy... a Artsit has to put on at least 100 shows a year AND sing at least once in the Grand Ole Opry and George never has. George Strait did appear on the Opry early in his career. When asked about becoming a member of the Opry, George said that he had never been asked. I really don't know if George would want to be in TN if it meant being away from his beloved Texas and family very long. I'm not sure about rules and regs on Opry member's quantity of performances. When was the last time member, Garth Brooks performed there?
On the Grand Ole Opry, the biggest would be Minnie Pearl. Both she and June would do comedy, make jokes, and both did sing and made recordings. Even though both have gone on to their Heavenly Home, true country music fans miss them, but, continue to love them for the laughter and joy each one gave to the world.
Does she sing country music?? No!
