The fuel filter on a 2000 Hyundai Sonata (4cyl) is located on the drivers side of the vehicle. From under the vehicle, look in the area of the left rear door, about a foot and a half in front of the tire. The filter sits at 90 degrees. To remove, use a 14mm line wrench. The filter itself has two ends in which you can use an adjustable wrench to hold it while you are using the 14mm wrench to loosen the fittings. Once the fittings are removed, loosen the bolts that hold the filter to the frame. Installation is in the reverse order. Important Note!!! Make sure to relieve the fuel pressure before removing the filter. This can be accomplished by starting the car, then removing the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box located in the engine compartment, at which point the engine will shut off. The fuse box cover, which is on the right side of the compartment, has a plastic cover, which underneath that has a diagram of the fuses. Remember to remove the fuel pump fuse.
