The Claddagh ring originated from a small Irish fishing village called 'Claddagh'.Claddagh is near Galway City and is now near the city center of Galway. The reason it is from this area is because long ago an Irish fisherman named Robert Joyce left his home of Galway to go to distant ports and sailed to the West Indies. He was captured by pirates and sold him into slavery. He was forced to work in a goldsmiths shop and while there he created the first ring as a symbol of his love for his Irish lady left at home. He finally gained his freedom in 1689 when King William III ordered all slaves freed. He returned to his love in Ireland and gave her the claddagh ring.
The standard ring worn by Irish men and women in Ireland when they are married is just a plain gold band. You may be referring to the Claddagh ring, but that is not a wedding ring. Some people may include a Claddagh design on their ring, but most rings are completely plain. A Claddagh ring can be worn by anyone, married or not.
Welcome to Claddagh. "Claddagh' is not spelled in Irish. It comes from the Irish cladach, shore.
You wear it following the same rules as a Claddagh ring. (with the heart facing out and the crown towards your body saying that you are single looking for love/ With the heart facing towards your body shows that you are dating) if you are not married, it is traditional to wear your ring(or in this case bracelet) on your right arm and move it to your left when you are married. Although I am from a strong Irish family, I choose to wear my bracelet on the left hand because it is solid gold and since I am right handed, it hinders my weighting sometimes. Or you can wear the bracelet just to show your Irish heritage or as remembrance for someone and not use it to show your romantic standing.
