The crown on an Irish claddagh ring should point in one of two directions. With the crown facing in, this signifies that the wearer is single. With the crown facing out, this signifies that the wearer is romantically involved with someone.

An Irish wedding tradition is to get married with a ring called a claddagh, the hands represent friendship, the crown royalty and the heart means love. Sometimes this ring gets passed down from a parent before the child is married, if this is so, you wear the crown facing in if you're in a relationship and out if you're single.

What is the Irish claddagh?

The Claddagh's distinctive design features two hands clasping a heart, and usually surmounted by a crown. The elements of this symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown). The expression which was associated with these symbols in the giving of the ring was: "With my two hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love." Yet, the expression, "Let love and friendship reign forever" can be found as another meaning for the symbols. The way that a Claddagh ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer's romantic availability, or lack thereof. The ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing outward to show that the wearer is not romantically linked but is looking for love. When turned inwards, it is shown that the wearer is in a relationship, or their heart has been "captured". Noting that the heart is pointing down the hand and into the veins which lead to the wearer's heart. The ring worn on the left hand with the heart facing outward shows the wearer is engaged; turned inward indicates the wearer is married.

What are different ways to wear a claddagh ring?

You wear it following the same rules as a Claddagh ring. (with the heart facing out and the crown towards your body saying that you are single looking for love/ With the heart facing towards your body shows that you are dating) if you are not married, it is traditional to wear your ring(or in this case bracelet) on your right arm and move it to your left when you are married. Although I am from a strong Irish family, I choose to wear my bracelet on the left hand because it is solid gold and since I am right handed, it hinders my weighting sometimes. Or you can wear the bracelet just to show your Irish heritage or as remembrance for someone and not use it to show your romantic standing.
