No you don't. They keep asking you no matter what. Even if you win the Legendary weapon, The Chopper, they will keep asking. :)
This quest is pretty straightforward, unlike most of the other ones. You just beat the crap out of every monster and bandit that the Crucible competition throws at you! It's pretty easy if you have some money and some health potions and food. You don't have to worry about running out of health potions unless you go in with only 1 potion. Every three rounds, you will get to visit a trader who can sell you weapons and potions. There are a total of 8 rounds. To enter the Crucible, get to Westcliff and climb the stairs to the Crucible. Don't hesitate to shop around first because you're going to need the best weapons to win the Crucible. Then speak to Mad-Dog. If you don't have at least 2,500 Reknown points, then he won't let you in - if you do, then just go on in and have some fun. The more exciting you make each round, the more money you get as a prize.
