N0...I don't know of any street car you have to do that to...unless you're trying to steal someone's driveshaft.
I disagree with the above statement. The MB 450SL is, of course, a rear-wheel drive car. The rear wheels of a rear-wheel drive car are connected to the transmission via the driveshaft. When the rear wheels turn, the transmission is turning. If you tow the car for a short distance with the rear wheels on the ground, you should have no problem. However, if you tow the car for a long distance with the rear wheels on the ground, there is a good chance that you will damage the transmission. Removing the driveshaft means that only the rear wheels and rear axle will turn, so there is no chance of damage to the transmission. An alternative is to tow a rear-wheel drive car from the rear, so that only the front wheels will be turning during the tow. If you do this, you must lock the steering wheel, so that the front wheels will be locked in the straight-on position.
no
Front wheel drive? Not applicable
yes you could do that or to be really safe you can disconnect the drive shaft
yes, it will burn tranny up. if its not all wheel drive why can't you tow it from the rear
If you're towing any front wheel drive car, you'll need to have locking hubs installed so you can unlock them before towing. Any rear wheel drive car with a manual transmission or transfer case which can be put into a neutral transmission can be. Otherwise, you'll want to disconnect the driveshaft before flat towing.
if your towing it far away I would but usually just putting it in neutral you will be fine if not going too many miles.
It depends on how far you're towing it and what kind of car it is. If it's a rear wheel drive vehicle and you're going very far you may want to disconnect the drive shaft. Other vehicles are on a case-by-case basis. Contact the dealer for specific information about your car. Often it's worth the expense of renting a "tow dolly" if you're towing a front wheel vehicle very far.
You can't disconnect the 4-wheel drive. The Mountaineer is a ALL WHEEL DRIVE S.U.V.
No, you just put the transmission in neutral. This works for both a dolly and for flat towing.
All true trucks are rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. Because of towing and payload needs trucks are rear wheel drive or 4wheel drive. If you have a heavy loadd in the back of the truck and it was front wheel drive you would not get any traction, the same as if you towing a load.
neutraj.
The maximum towing capacity for a 105hp 2 wheel drive HRV is 1600kgs, max trailer weight of 1400kgs.
