Not necessarily, but it would be helpful if you had at least an associate's degree if not a bachelor's degree with coursework in Biology, veterinary studies, animal behavior, etc. Lots and lots of volunteer work for a shelter or animal rescue operation would be good, too, and perhaps some police or fire academy study would be helpful as well.
