You don't need Facebook . . . if you already have an Answers.com account.
The skinny is that a new contributor who has not previously signed up, finds, when he attempts to sign up for an account with WikiAnswers, that WikiAnswers gives him only one mechanism for signing up. That mechanism is to use Facebook's signup mechanism.
Create a new account on your computer, use a different browser, or try incognito mode in Google Chrome, when not already in incognito mode.
Then try to sign In to Answers.com. You will have only two choices: Sign in with your already existing Answers.com account, or sign in with Facebook.
There is no option for creating an Answers,com membership from scratch. If you don't have a "grandfathered" Answers.com membership, your only option is to sign in with Facebook. And to do so, you must either have, or must create, a Facebook account.

∙ 8y agoYes, members are required to have a Facebook account to log into Answers, and must have a Facebook account to create an account (excluding members that already have had an account before the change was implemented).

REALLY? I am glad I started my Answers "account" a couple of years ago. I have no Facebook account. I have never had a Facebook account. I never will have a Facebook account. I refuse to use Facebook because I know its purpose in "life"!

∙ 10y agoYou used to be able to - I've been here since 2009, and don't need to use Facebook etc to sign in. I still can't understand why Answers changed the rules to force people to sign in via social media !

∙ 11y agoTo access the Wiki Answer platform you need a Facebook account for signing in. Without the Facebook profile you can't access the Wiki Answer platform.

it needs to access your facebook to get your name and to know if you are of legal age to access the site. It will need your info to sign you up and as your login.

Unfortunately, members that are registered on WikiAnswers (the newer ones) now must use Facebook to register, and log-into WikiAnswers.
