If you are already married and want to marry someone else you MUST obtain a divorce decree from your present spouse, even if you have been separated for a long time and don't know where your spouse is living. If you do not, you will be violating the law in the US, would need to falsify the marriage license and your second marriage will be invalid.

Filed for divorce years ago since then got married how do you correct the divorce if no decree was issued?

If the divorce was not completed then you are still legally married to your first partner. You will need to complete the divorce proceedings and get the decree issued. As you can only be married to one person at a time, your second marriage is not binding, and will not be recognised by law, so you will need to hold another ceremony after the decree is issued if you want the second marriage to be legal and binding.

What if I got married- got a divorce- got remarried and found out years later that the divorce was contested?

A contested divorce means the parties aren't in agreement as to the issues or/and division of property. There is a hearing and the court renders a decision and decree. As long as there was a divorce decree issued then you were legally divorced. You can contact the court and request a copy of the decree if you are not certain of your status.A contested divorce means the parties aren't in agreement as to the issues or/and division of property. My ex husband passed away 1997 and I could get some of his veterans benefits benefits if we had not divorced. Can the divorce be annulled?

Your divorce cannot be annulled. A decree of annulment dissolves a marriage as though it never took place. Your decree of divorce terminated your married legal status permanently. As part of that decree the parties were forever released from any claims of the other. The only way to undo a divorce is to get remarried.
