No, you don't have to pull the entire engine, but some mechanics choose to pull both. It's sort of a coin~flip on which is easier, to remove the suspension cross~member and steering tie rods to get the transaxle out, from the bottomand not remove the entire engine/transaxle assembly. You must remove the intake manifold and throttle body, radiator, and A/C condenser if you choose to leave engine in place and must then have A/C purged and refilled with R134. But you have the option of pulling the entire engine/transaxle asembly out from the top. That way the suspension cross member does not have to come off. But then you have to deal with fuel lines and such. There is so very much more to this I can't write it all out here. Suggest getting a Haynes, Motor, or Chilton manual for about $40 but worth every dime
