take all the wiring and hoses loose from the top of the engine, and you might have to remove the valve covers. then just loosen the intake manifold bolts

Its called an "Intake Manifold Tuning Valve". Its function is to join or separate the two sides of the intake manifold. It has a minor effect on engine performance. It can be difficult or impossible to remove.
remove intake manifold and rocker covers. loosen nuts on rockers and remove pushrods. lifters should lift right out of their bores.
