After delivery, your back may be sore from the injection for a few days. However, an epidural does not cause long-term back pain.

Having an epidural is not necessarily the single reason why someone may suffer back pain after undergoing this procedure. The pain may also cause by improper way of injecting the needle to the specific vein at the back bone.

The goal of the injection is pain relief; at times the injection alone is sufficient to provide relief, but commonly an epidural steroid injection is used in combination with a comprehensive rehabilitation program to provide additional benefit.
