i used a 1/2 of distilled water mixed with the g-12(already in there) and used the dex-lock mix by prestone and its worked out fine. the sensor light for temp that flashed red went off as well as the ac working just fine! no more start problems either as it wouldn't want to start even though i hear it clicking. goodluck
pink g12
You may use Volkswagon G12 coolant or Prestone Extended Life coolant. If cost is a factor use the latter.
G12
A 2001 Volkswagen Beetle only takes a specific type of coolant. When flushing or just topping off the radiator in this vehicle be sure to use G12+ coolant to ensure proper cooling for the vehicles engine.
Yes
Important!!! Use only G12 coolant for any Volkswagen or Audi. DO NOT MIX FACTORY COOLANT WITH ANY OTHER BRAND Dealers will have it for approx 20-30 dollars per gallon. Pentosin produces the coolant for Volkswagen, Audi and BMW.
If it is a new beetle you use G12 mixed half and half with distilled water.
Yes, you must use G12 type antifreeze which is similar to Dex-cool but they are not the same. But that doesn't mean you have to buy it from the dealer at $25. There may be other sources. PEAK® Global LifeTime™ claims to be a replacement for G12 but considering the importance of using the proper coolant, I would use only a G12 coolant.
G12, the red stuff. Make sure there is no air in the system after you flush and fill it.
Always use G12!! You can pick it up at your local VW or Audi dealership.
no they have a antifreeze made for all makes and modles and color ^ you sir do not know what your talking about. Yes on VW/Audi's you must use G11/G12 trust me dont use the green stuff for all cars. It destroys your cooling system trust me i know I did that to my GTI because I needed coolant fast. If you put the green stuff in hurry up and flush it out and replace with with the Pink or Red G12. check out this site for anymore vw question www.vwvortex.com > You must use only G12 for any Volkswagen vehicle made after 1997. VW specifies only fully organic or OAT (Organbic Acid Technology) coolant in these vehicles. If you add any other coolant to G12 it will turn it into a brown, sludgy goo. See www.wunderkar.ca/fluid.html for some info and pictures.
Volkswagen antifreeze is made by Pentosin. Only use that kind. It is, unfortunately, really expensive--a 1.5-liter bottle is about $15. Compare that with Prestone you can get for around $11 a gallon. Fortunately for you, it lasts three years. There are four kinds of VW antifreeze: green, which is for really old watercooled VWs; blue, which is specification G11 and is for cars from about 1989 to 1996; red (or pink), which is specification G12 and is for 1997-2002 cars; and purple, which is specification G12+ for 2003-on cars. Red/pink and purple antifreezes are mixable. Blue antifreeze can't be mixed with red/pink or purple antifreezes.
