My Dad was on the Parks. I don't know about this but do know that young sailors were put through mock ceremonies and initiations to mark their crossing of the equator and some other milestones achieved.

My father was on the Parks, he said that when they crossed the equator that someone dressed up like king Neptune and they had to crawl through a gauntlet of people flogging them and someone had this bucket with some liquid in it that looked and smelled like pee with something floating around in it that was supposed to be a turd and they had to take a bite out of it. Unfortunately, he died 2 years ago or I'd ask him for you, that's really all I remember him telling me about holding king Neptune's court.
