It's my view that what we refer to as Democracy is nothing of the sort. All, most, elections are flawed in one way or another, in many instances the number of people who don't vote outnumbers those who do, so who did the non-voters elect ? I know there was much controvery in the election of George W Bush at the last instance, particularly in Florida. Zimbabwes' recent election of President Mugabe is open to massive criticism: Do you really think Hitler was fairly elected in 1933, later events might provide evidence that he was likely to be disreputable ! Ideally Democracy is the government of all of us, for all of us, by all of us. It just ain't going to happen.
