Yes.

If you have DirecTV or Dish Network, the HD signals come from different satellites the the SD signals. For DTV most SD signals come from the 101, 110 and 119 degree west longitude sat positions. Most HD signals come from the 99 and 103 degree sat positions.

Each sat position has a dedicated filter (called a low noise blocker, or LNB) on the arm of the dish. An SD dish only has up to 3 SD LNB's (3 total) and doesn't have the HD LNB's (which would be 5 total.) Don't be confused by looking at the dish to count the number of LNB's because most modern dishes combine up to 3 LNB's into one unit. Call DTV or Dish and ask because if you want to get HD the dish is included (free) in the upgrade. If you already have an HD receiver, the dish upgrade is free.

Dish works very much the same way.

What is the best TV satellite system for a motorhome?

It depends on what kind of motorhome and when you want to watch Dish TV. If you will be mobile and wanting television, you will need a self adjusting satellite dish; there are also stationary satellite dishes available. As far as a satellite system, I prefer Dish TV because of the price, channel selection and technology. Dish Network also has a affordable portable satellite dish that does not attach to your motor-home called the Dish Tailgater.

What device modulates outgoing signals and demodulates incoming signals?

To receive a Satellite signal, you need a LNB which is attached to your satellite dish--The LNB and dish is determined by which satellite TV service you have--either Dish Network or DirecTV. The satellite dish is pointed in a particular direction to pick up the correct satellite orbiting the sky. You will also need a satellite receiver, which is "wired" to the LNB and also is attached to your television.

How do you get your satellite to work?

For Dish satellite TV, you need a receiver and an active account, with the dish installed on the outside of your abode. The reciever has a smart card, which tells the receiver what programming you subscribe to. Without these components and an active account, you would not receive programming. Thanks.

How does the proper satellite signal get to the TV channel?

The correct signal for satellite TV is determined by the direction the satellite dish is pointed. DirecTV and Dish Network signals come out of the Southern sky from the direction directly above Texas. Many other satellites orbit the earth and send out audio and video signals of all different types and formats. Simply put, a satellite dish is like a catchers mitt and will catch any signal coming from the satellite it is aimed towards. The signal received will need to be properly matched with the in house receivers and equipment in order to work properly. For example, if a Dish Network dish is aimed towards a DirecTV satellite signal, the system will not work.
