∙ 10y agoIt is illegal to have a platypus as a pet, so the question of whether or not one needs a licence is completely irrelevant. Platypuses are native Australian animals, and therefore protected by law. They are not permitted to be kept as pets in Australia or any other country.
A limited number of facilities in Australia keep them for either display or research purposes, and these facilities must certainly have a licence if some description.

∙ 13y agoAbsolutely, and restrictions are high. You cannot even own platypuses in Australia unless you have a special licence. A limited number of universities or wildlife sanctuaries have licences to keep platypuses.
