In the United States, you need a doctorate rather than a Master's. The actual degree is either Doctor of Veterinary medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD). However, this varies depending upon the country you receive your training in.

Veteriarians have a doctorate (DVM, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) from a college of veterinary medicine. Usually, this degree is obtained after receiving a Bachelor's degree. The entire process takes about 8 years after high school to complete, although some vet schools will accept a student who has completed a list of prerequisites without a Bachelor's degree, reducing the time to complete the process to 7 or even 6 years. Additionally, some students choose to do extra undergraduate work or obtain a Master's degree prior to starting the DVM curriculum. Additionally, some vets go on to pursue further education and become board-certified in a particular specialty.

You will need neither. To become a veterinarian is similar to becoming any other kind of doctor.

1) Complete a 4 year undergraduate university/college degree, preferably in the sciences.

2) Complete a 4 year doctorate in verterinary medicine from an accredited college/university

3) Pass nation/region certification exams.

The same steps are required to become any kind of doctor, eg:

Doctor of medicine

Doctor of chiropractic

Doctor of podiatry

Doctor of dentistry

Doctor of optometry

etc.

Veterinarians must obtain a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a State license. There is keen competition for admission to veterinary school.

How do you become a zoological veterinarian?

A veterinarian is by definition also a zoologist, although a zoologist specifically trained in providing medical care to living animals and to evaluate living animals both individually and as a population. Therefore, the term "zoologic veterinarian" is redundant, and the position is simply called "a veterinarian". To become a veterinarian in the United States, you need to complete a minimum of three years of undergraduate college classes ranging from physics to biochemistry to statistics, then complete another four years of vet school.
