Do you need a passport? As a Canadian, I can say for certain that a Canadian is required to have a valid passport to enter Mexico, as a visitor, and if they intend to do business in Mexico, they need a visa, issued by a Mexican Embassy or Consulate.

More input from Wiki s Contributors:

  • NO, at this time a passport is not required for travel to Mexico and/or Canada, but it is highly recommended. If traveling without a passport, you will need your original birth certificate and a state issued photo ID
  • You do not need one at the present time (5-05), but there is a new law going into effect that you will need a passport to Mexico and Canada in the near future. No visas are needed for these countries.
  • You do not need a passport when travelling from Canada to Mexico, if you are a US Cicizen.
  • The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.
  • You do not require a passport to enter Mexico at this present time (12-08) and it is very hard to get a straight answer, if in doubt contact the airline or the consulate.
