So do not stress take a deep breath and get to a phone book. i promise in the event you purchase 800.00 worth of tires you can trash the front tires and then the wheel bearings . get the 65 or 70 dollar front end alignment. have it checked every 6 months or so to optimize the life of them 800.00 tires.
If you are not noticing any unusual vibration or wheel hop (have someone follow you and check all your tires at speed), and tire wear seems fine, then you probably don't. BUT, if you notice that a wheel weight is missing or have a vibration while driving, or have hit a curb or run over something big, then do get them balanced/checked. It is possible you might need an alignment if you notice a pull to either side. If you have a high-performance car, make sure the tires are balanced for high-speed, not just up to 70 mph.
The last time I had one it was almost $90. Another local tire shop with a good rep did alignment for me this year for $67.
It depends on what the truck is used for. Strictly offroading, of course not. Being driven on the road? You don't have to but reccomended. It depends on how bad the truck pulls too. Big tires are expensive and a little wear means big cost too.

He actually came back and apoligized to me after taking it to the dealer that replaced the wheel bearing. He has been a customer of mine ever since.

The front wheel(s) are only for steering and holding the front end up. The back wheels supply the power and must have traction. Making them big lets them carry big tires which keeps the tractor from getting stuck in muddy fields and keeps them from slipping so easily. The big lugs on the tires also help in that regard.
