Yes.
No. If you buy it on steam, then you will be able to download it to your steam games library and install it. After you do that, you'll be able to play it on steam. However, if you're on a mac, you can't play terraria. By the way, you have to buy the collector's edition to get a physical copy of the game.
If you have Terraria on Steam it updates itself once an update is available.
You can find it on Steam.

sad-da-sda-d-a-
You can buy it through Steam, TerrariaOnline, etc. Just go onto Google and type the keywords "Terraria" or "Get Terraria", and go from there.
I say whichever is cheaper unless you really, really like having a physical copy. There are a few things to consider: 1 - Do you want it on Steam? If so, you need to buy it from Steam itself. There is no way to add the retail edition to Steam. 2 - Would you rather install from disc or download it? The problem here is that right now, in 2018, there are over three years of updates that will need to be downloaded anyway. The physical version just isn't much use as a simpler way to install.
It depends on the website you download it from, some might be unsafe that give you viruses or even possibly scamming you but some are safe but i recommend you buying it on Steam for legal and safe reasons
