White smoke is an indication of a blown head gasket. Stop driving this car immediately. Although the compression is not great, it is not bad enough to warrant an expensive overhaul. If on the other hand you find that the head gasket has indeed blown, then you might want to just go ahead an overhaul the engine as the head will have to be removed anyway. You will need more than just new rings. the head gasket test came negative. The head gasket is fine. whast wrong with it. Is the turbo leaking oil
The compression stroke is not part of the engine. It is what happens when the pistons are on the upward with closed valves.See link below. The compression stroke is not part of the engine. It is what happens when the pistons are on the upward with closed valves.See link below.
shaving the heads of the motor or enlarging the pistons
compression rings on pistons are worn out or broken
It balances the vibrations from the pistons...
with higher compression pistons
If you're asking about the compression ratio, it depends on the pistons you choose after boring the block. no, the way you increase compression is by using different pistons, an ,or smaller chamber heads. boring a block increases cubic inches.
You usually lower engine compression by using head spacers between the engine block and head or by using shorter pistons.
You will have an improvement in engine performance and an increase in compression unless the compression rings on the pistons need replacement .
Shave the head or change pistons. See Miata.net
The early 71s had 9 to 1 with a 74 cc head and a 1.72 inch valve. they changed the pistons to 8.5. So if your rebuilding an early 307 and its got flat tops in it, its got 9 to 1. If you got dishes or little bowls in the pistons its got 8.5 to 1.
the compression isn't high enuf the tsi's have low compression pistons and are relying on the forced air from the turbo to feed it
