Not really, but you can fro extra humidity.
It should be in a pond of water if one opts to use a sponge. The sponge needs to be sterilized at least every 2 days due to the way they harbor bacteria.
I personally, dont use a sponge beacuse it gets dirty too much, i just mist the crabitat until it have enough humidity. You dont have to change the sponge, if it gets really dirty, boil it in distilled water and place it back in. You need to change the hermie sponge when it becomes so small you cant really use it.
no
Yes. In fact, I will tell you things that you need to know. first, you need more than one hermit crab. They Rome in groups and try to make the crabitat as beachy as possible. They have gills, so you need to mist them everyday.
Land hermit crabs do not need a sponge in their tank. A sponge is high maintenance, it needs to be sterilized at least every 2 days due to they are known to harbor molds and bacteria. There are other methods one can use if they are attempting to boost the humidity within their tank. That being said, if one is willing to do the high maintenance a sponge requires, it is a personal choice.
Hermit crabs can live quite well off of pet store hermit crab pellets. No, they do not eat other crabs, though aggressive hermit crabs will tear limbs off of others. As for the water, the first thing you should get is dechlorinator and a sea sponge. Now. Like, right now. Follow the directions on the dechlorinator to treat a good deal of water--enough to completely soak the sponge. Then, put a dish in his cage and set the sponge on that. Be sure to keep some water set aside to mist the cage with a sprayer-- they need a warm, humid environment to thrive. I wish you and your crab the best. <3
Absolutely!
Hermit crabs molt when they feel the need to. Nothing is wrong with your crab if it hasn't molted. :)
You can bathe your hermies in hermit crab salt which you can find at petsmart.also if you have small crabs put a sponge in the water dish the water temp should be 60 to 70 degress.ps I've been raising hermit crabs for 30 years in my old crab is 30 years old
you don't need to do anything a hermit crab will do it itself. if a hermit crab losses a leg it will grow back. it will grow back after molting.
It was to cold
Hermit crabs do not bite, they pinch. When a hermit crab pinches you that means that they are intimidated and stressed out, and possibly hungry. In your crabitat there should always be fresh food available to your hermit crab so it does not starve. My hermit crabs are 6 years old, if you want to learn how to PROPERLY CARE FOR A HERMIT CRAB, visit hermitcrablovers142.webs.com
I LOVE that question! hermit crabs have been abused for years! hermit crabs are tropical animals. thay need 1 gallon of space per hermit crab, they also need love and attention they have personalities too.
