I don't think so, I think they can change it with the motor in the car.
You could attempt this in car, but it's not the wisest idea. To do the rear main seal you need to have clearance around the crankshaft to put it in. This means unbolting the connecting rods and at least loosening all the mains. You also have to unbolt the trans. Then manipulating it in while under the car and working around everything is a nightmare. You would be miles ahead and get a lot better job if you just pull the engine.
how do you change a rear main seal in a Chevy 350 motor
Absolutely!
if it has the double hump heads..more than likely 350hp. If not 250hp
You can either pull the engine are the transmission. But 1 are the other has to be removed to change the rear main seal. Your choice.
The rear main seal is located on the moter between the transmission you have to pull motor or trans to change it the seel is on that shaft that slides into the transmission saft
Sure... you'll just have to remove the transmission & flywheel.
you need to purchase stick on beam deflectors from motor factors ....PS
Remove the trasnsmission and you can then replace the seal.
first change the blower resistors first , way easier and #1 cause of motor dead. after main switch and fuse. the procedure is long and hard. you need to go to the library and print out the chiltons e-sources on that .

Which motor? If you are talking about the main engine, it can go more than 400,000 miles if properly maintained. There is no reason to replace it unless it is having problems. If you are asking about the blower motor, it also has no specific replacement interval but could fail. Replace as needed.
Rear main seal.
