Pobably not...most of the time when the timing belt breaks the whole engine just stops. The belt moves the cam and if the cam isn't moving the valves aren't either. Besides replacing the timing belt is expensive enough, don't need to add a valve job on top of that.
That engine is not an interference engine, so no, the valves should not bend in the event of a timing belt break.
According to the information I have, no, though Gates claims it does. I've seen timing belts break on these engines with no damage to valves.
Yes, these engines are interference engines. The valves may hit the pistons when belt breaks/jumps time. Don't put off changing timing belts on these kind of engines.
A broken timing belt on a Ford ZX2 will not damage the engine. The 2.0 ZETEC engine used in the ZX2 is a non-interference engine which means the pistons will not come into contact with the valves should the belt break. Because of this the valves will not be damaged and no engine damage will occur.
Usually if the timing belt breaks you have to replace the head or the bent valves. Sometimes the damage can be much worse and the entire engine can be wiped out. When the timing belt breaks, your cams and valves stop moving but the pistons don't. The pistons will smash against the stopped valves and bent them and on some occasions can break pistons as well.
if the timing belt breaks then yes it will throw the timing off.
The timing belt is what keeps the valves from moving in synch with the pistons. If the timing belt snaps or cogs over the pistons are likely to collide with the valves smashing them both.
It's highly likely that the valves and piston have touched, as with most modern 16v engines. I'd replace the timing belt, then try turning it over by hand, if that works see if it will start. It is however unlikely to start, so it will then require the cylinder head removing to replace the damaged valves. Check everything in the timing belt area; tensioner, idler, water pump etc, as damage or failure of any of these could have caused the timing belt to break
The water pump is driven by the timing belt under a cover on the front of the engine. You'll have to take the timing belt off and you should replace it the same time because they all break if enough miles have been put on them. This is a good job for an experienced mechanic. If you don't know how to set the valve timing on a Ford Escort farm the work out to a mechanic.
If it is an interference engine the valves can bend/break.
it won't slip, it will break if anything, and yes it will bend the valves
Ha yes timing belt breakage in any car can cause damage to the engine... things like bent valves, scored cylinder walls and possible engine failure. That is why the idea is to replace timing belts before they break.
