after replacing points in engine, can correct timing be done to engine if engine is not run.
If you continue to run the engine it will break down and seize up. The engine is likely to be beyond repair and need replacing.

If it is a points type ignition, and it will start, then die immediately, I would first check the ballast resister. If it checks out, then the condenser would be my next item to try replacing.

If referring to an outboard engine, running the motor without water supplied will ruin a water pump in less than 60 seconds. Never dry run a marine engine.

The engine needs fuel to run. The car needs you to run it.
Then the engine will not run
the thermostat might need replacing very soon. the engine coolant isn't hitting the engine fast enough to cool it off. it might also be the temperature sensor is messing up.
They start out at 90 points. They do not come with weapons and you would need to find those points to run them.
